Subject: Mumbai Theatre Guide Weekly Updates

Dear All (for example, the cognoscenti, the dilettante, the miffed receiver who has not subscribed to our service, the newly initiated and the many other sub-species of the theatre),

As we promised last week, we are back with more updates on the META (Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards) winners. We were happy to indulge actor Nagesh Bhosale in a long conversation and the result can be found in our Theatre Gupshup section. Nagesh won the best actor award this year for his character of 'Bhau' in Ramu Ramanathan's COTTON 56, POLYESTER 84. We also feature his TheatreSpeak.

There is a festival of plays that is on Shivani Tibrewala's residence. Shivani Tibrewala is a young theatre person who has her own theatre company called No Licence Yet. For more information on this festival, please refer to our news' section. It is advisable that you call before hand if you are interested in seeing a particular play, since seating is limited. The same goes for Rehaan Engineer's theatrical installation based on Samuel Beckett's 'That Time'. As of now there are only four shows scheduled so you may not want to miss it.

Scherazade Kaikobad's production of RETELLINGS, which opened at the Thespo Youth Festival last year is on at Shivani Tibrewala's residence on 31st March. It will also be performed at Prithvi on the 3rd and the 4th of April. 27th March each year is celebrated as World Theatre Day. This day was chosen by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), which is part of the UNESCO. Each year the ITI invites a personality to deliver a message to the international theatre community. This year they invited His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and ruler of Sharjah. His message along with an older message from veteran playwright Girish Karnad is available in our Features' section.

Speaking of Karnad, his recent play FLOWERS, which was performed at Prithvi last week has been reviewed. We do hope you enjoy reading these updates. And do make a note of the plays that you wish to see.

Warm Regards,
Deepa Punjani.
